That's one of the things I started doing...my GF will do it for me sometimes. We consider it separate from sex cause she'll just do that then we move on. She likes it =P. Also while growing up I never cared for patience or anything like that and would jerk off at least once a day...lately I do it once or twice a week to put some thrill back into it. I also stay away from quick jerk offs and always make an evening of it when I do.
