I've used them too, and I'm nowhere near as thick/wide as you are, but they're just more comfortable all the way around, as "regular" sized condoms are usually on the small side for most guys even if they're on the bigger side of average. And as long as you have just enough lube on first (on the inside that is) so as not to cause them break from too much friction, but not too much lube so as they'll slide off, you'll be fine.
