Should I Publicise LPSG?

Hey Guys & Gals

I write for a gay magazine. We have a section for a Site of the Week. Would LPSG users like me to make this site my Site of the Week for one issue, or would that bring too much attention to us? Do we like our exclusivity here, not surrounded by too many gawkers, or do we want to spread the good work that support is out there for those of a sizable sausage?

Although I found this site by accident years ago, I believe we have a lot to offer all males. Interesting, some females also find us interesting!!!!!

Well, that of course has got to be up to you. But every time LPSG has been "publicized" since I joined, it was not a good thing. The trolls came out of the woodwork.

You should be asking the Site Owner, Rob_E, if you can do this.

As DC said, whenever we get a lot of pub, a shitstorm happens.

It might be an idea to ask Rob his opinion too as a matter of courtesy.

I would support it, lvsexy. We're not a secret society here (no secret handshakes or oaths of death.) We lived through the publicity broadcast in that Channel 4 documentary, after all.

Why Pecker, you must have been absent the day we were taught the secret glandshake. Perhaps you can convince some winsome young lass to help you out with that.

Id vote a NO, like the regulars here and the semi secret nature of the place, and qould think to much exposure would change the place, bring in more fakers.

I'd ask Rob_E, but if he has no qualms, my only concern would be HOW you present the site. Please don't tell people it's a hook up site, but if you give a brief description and tell the readers a little more about what the site's about, I think that would be a good thing. Remember folks, our problems with the channel 4 exposure was that the site was severely misrepresented. If you do that, we'll hunt you down and eat you!

And not in the good way, either!

I've only been here for about 2 weeks, but for what its worth I think that if publicity brings 1 man/woman to the site who wants real advice, or has real advice to give, then its worth any number of idiots its brings along for the ride. Idiots can be banned after all

Agreed, however, if you do mention the site let us know when it's going to print so we know to have extra headache medication on hand.

I can't echo and underline Madame Z's words enough; if you didn't experience the headache of being here following the Channel 4 fiasco, then you really can't imagine the extent to which the site was swamped with trolls and tawdry hook-up merchants. All due to the way it was misrepresented on the show. Yes, a handful of good posters joined because of it, but they were most definitely in the minority. Otherwise, it just became Freakshow Central Station with trains departing to Trollville and Fuckwitt Town every half hour.

Of course you should be contacting Rob about this first and foremost. It would be good if you could clarify precisely what kind of "gay magazine" you write for too: since there is clearly a difference between discussing the site in a more 'serious' publication, and simply mentioning it in a crypto-porn mag that's given away at clubs, for example.

Dig it there, bro; I agree with MZ & Lex's sentiments on this in spades. It isn't our place that's owned nor is it our place to say yes, so Mr Rob's the man to go to & ask.

There are so many more bad things than good things that would come with publicizing the site. Unless you're the site owner.
