Condoms Breaking A Bit Too Often...Why?

Hi.

So me and the missus just finished having coitus and the condom broke towards the end (it was on me, I was inside her and it just broke) this happened on Sunday as well as tonight. Why do they keep breaking? We bought 36 Magnums for about $30 altogether and thought they might be some cheap batch? I doubt I can burst through the end of a Magnum...any ideas?

NB: There was no air inside the condom, my girlfriend checks it every 20 seconds. We want to know why this is happening so often (condoms are supposed to be over 90% effective arent they?). Any help is greatly appreciated.

as far as i know condoms must be 99% perfect... only one out of every 100 is "OK" to be broken... im not sure what is the problem...

I really find this a bizarre problem. I've experienced one condom break in eight years of sex, and that was a very freaky accident.

The only thing that springs to mind is whether even a small amount of some substance that eats through condoms could be coming into play (even through brief contact of the condoms with your hands or your girlfriend's), and gradually eating through the latex ---- such as residue from baby oil, nail polish, cleaning fluids like methylated spirits... perhaps even some other form of cosmetic scent product or the like?

Never experienced a broken condom either. Only time i've ever had any problem with one was the first time i tried to put one on a guy with my mouth. Utter chaos! Teeth, condom, hysterics. Dont think we ever got round to actually having sex. Too much fun laughing to spoil it.

Perhaps you need more, or better, lubricant.

Don't know why, but you're not the only one it happens to. The only way around it that I've found is to get condoms made from polyurethane (Durex brand ones are called Aventi or something like that) rather than latex as the polyurethane ones are not prone to disintergrating if they come into contact with any oil based lubricant.

As well as the tendancy to self destruct, I've found that latex condoms have other 'faults'. They are useless at unrolling smoothly, they feel like they cut the circulation off to regions enclosed by them and they never unroll all the way down. The last one means that if you thrust deeper than the bit where it runs out (so it's completely inside your partner) it can roll back up when you withdraw, sometimes to the point of removing itself.

Anyway, does anyone know if any UK chain of pharmacies or similar actually stock the polyurethane condoms? Boots def don't and it'd be nice to know of a pharmacy chain etc that stocks them - save hours of wandering 'round Newcastle, going into every little shop that might stock them.

Bloody hell, my 1st post almost turned into an essay!

I had that problem with the Trojan Larges. The Magnums have worked out better, and the XL's better still. It was really just with one partner. She really gave me a lot of friction . Unfortunately, I mean that both ways.
I can only think of 1 other break since then and she was a high friction girl too, but only in the good sense.

I've only ever had one condom break. I have no real idea of why it happened, although we did change positions a number of times, and only found it was broken when we were both 'finished'.

If it's happening a lot - perhaps it's a lube issue as has been mentioned. Otherwise, I'd write a nasty letter to the manufacturer (and threaten to sue them for child support).

the reason is... the size of your condom doesnt match your size...

im 8x7....and so u can imagine how tight durex's can be ..even the XXL.... so they break.... ...magnums xls or whatever broke less..but still did...

but the winner is for sure condomania.com (the custom made condoms)...who broke on me only once...

LOL thanks but in the pics the brand is another brand (Condomi XXL) that I tried once, and although they were less expensive than Magnum XL's, they were in fact smaller and a bit painful.

Now I use Magnum XL's but its a bit worrying that two have broken in less than a week (say two out of 5 'sessions'). I think maybe its that because the condom doesnt roll all the way down (theres about an inch left at the base) that it gets stuck there and when I thrust it breaks out of the end because my penis is restricted by it not going all the way down.

However, we used some lube today and that was fine...maybe things are sorted. We'll find out soon enough :D
