| | | Lawdy, lawdy ... I think novice_btm has flown the coop. Hasn't posted in four weeks. His last post was his 6001st, posted in the Congrats Novice_btm on reaching 6,000!!! thread: Quote:

Ah, nov ... you were a persnickety school marm, but we loved you (and your lust, and your gallery, and your insightful comments, and your honesty, and for the lucky few who heard in the LPSG Voices thread ... your wonderfully modulated and crisp voice). Say it ain't so, nov!!! As Billy Joel says, 'Only the good fly the coop.' You put in your signature, I assume just before you walked out the door: Forget the trolls, call me when the FAKES are gone. (They, and their enablers, are the real detriment to the site.)
Losing more and more respect for those I respected, daily. Aargh. The fakes are perennially with us, nov. In life or on the web.
You can't destroy our universe for that. Come back from time to time, woodja?
A number of peeps would like to see your fresh face. (I hope you like that I posted this in your preferred Random Thoughts thread. Thinkin' of you, nov ... thinkin' of you.)

| | | Earthquakes can be fun.
I lived through one in Quebec City, back in 1987.
Everything shook for about 30 seconds, and then the electricity went out.
It was completely dark, but the Quebecois could cope.
They paraded up and down la rue St. Jean, hundreds and hundreds of them, four and five abreast ... lighting their way with flashlights and lanterns, and a few with some kind of candle inside a glass case (not very valuable for lighting the street, but good for illuminating the faces in a group).
The crowd was heavier than at the Quebec City Carnaval.
The sense of intimacy and of shared experience was wonderful, one of the warmest experiences of my life.
And it seemed sooo Quebecois.
Of course, if you're going to have an earthquake, this was the kind to have ... one of 5.2 magnitude centred some distance away, with no one injured and damage limited to a few broken windows and the clock at City Hall stopped cold at 9:34 p.m.

| | | HugoB has left the house.
His parting words, on his profile, are: I've grown weary of this site. Best of luck, friends. We never connected at all that I recall.
But I liked his sass a lot. (That's sass, for all you smart asses.)
Made short incursions into arrogance without ever installing an occupation force. Au revoir, Hugo.
