Oh, I'm so bad at this. My list is mostly dependent on personal connections to the music or where I was in life at the time. Plus it would probably be different if I were asked, say, in a month.

He may be criminally unknown, but he's damn fantastic! Great about mixing Lee Hooker's blues style with rock elements, and with Neil Young's more recent softer songs (as found on "Are you passionate?").

i won't list the top 5 albums in the world, but I'll list 5 (out of a great many) rock albums that influenced my musical appreciation of rock and made those few extra rounds in my car head unit:

nirvana - nevermind (the original kicker; i had listened to little or no rock before hearing this album in the early 90s. not the best album, but certainly influential.)

the smashing pumpkins - mellon collie and the infinite sadness (one of the best products out of the defunct alternative movement. this was back when creativity was actually celebrated)

mudvayne - l.d. 50 (i didn't like it when i first played it, but as i became more accustomed to the style and fascinating complexity of the music, i realized what an amazing achievement this album really was)

pete yorn - musicforthemorningafter (just a great and very accessible rock album)

chris cornell - euphoria morning (i love the multilayered textures in the sound of this album, as well as chris cornell's hauntingly elastic vocals)
