Well, Nixxy, it works like this:

*OTCs generally only treat symptoms. The only OTCs I trust are dietary supplements, pimple cream, and things like condoms and bandages. And of course painkillers, but even then you should be careful with them. (The prescription stuff is stronger and potentially addictive.)
*Yes, pharmaceutical companies are in the business of making money. So are alternative medicines. It gets worse when free-market fanatics control the FDA.
*Pardon the pun, but I get sick of ads for medicine. Do I REALLY need to hear about Valtrex when I'm eating?

The bottom line is to make sure your doctor knows about any side effects.
