I will point everyone to the South Park episode on the subject: Bush and co. are behind the conspiracy theories because they want everyone to think they're devious and powerful enough to get away with pulling off 9/11 to create a justification for Iraq, keeping America in line and in fear by capitalizing on what was just the work of "a bunch of pissed off Arabs."
