Rasputin in the Russian Sex Musseum

Rasputin's mysticism was basically a mix of shamanism and Orthodox Christianity. (Orthodox Christians aren't as legalistic as Catholics or Protestants. For example, stealing a loaf of bread to feed your family wouldn't be a sin.)

Rasputin's mysticism was basically a mix of shamanism and Orthodox Christianity. (Orthodox Christians aren't as legalistic as Catholics or Protestants. For example, stealing a loaf of bread to feed your family wouldn't be a sin.) His personality was a contradiction, but that's part of the whole shaman persona.

Rasputin's influence was probably one of the big things which turned people against the Romanov family, along with the war with Japan, the Great War, and bloody Sunday. But he was a miracle worker from the standpoint of turn-of-the-century medicine. (This doesn't mean twenty-first century medicine couldn't do some of these things: Remember, Hahnemann basically gave his patients water, but he lost fewer patients per capita than other eighteenth-century doctors.) And could you expect the royal couple to act any differently? Think about a world where doctors are rare and unreliable; if a strange man saved your loved ones, you'd probably give him undue influence too.

Of course The Tsarina Alexandra trusted him; he kept the Tsarevich Aleksei's haemophilia in check, something that medical science of the time had no real handle on. That fact notwithstanding, Tsar Nicholas II never completely trusted the Mad Monk, and suspected that he an Alexandra were having secret liaisons. The fact that Raputin had a big schlong was no secret; he used to whip it out in public. But his most memorable feature was not his cock, but his eyes. He had the most hypnotic gaze. He was an unusual fellow. Poisoning and bullets wouldn't kill him. After those methods failed, Prince Félix Yusupov had him drowned.

Yeah, I've seen those eyes; even paintings of him look like they're following you around.

Thanx for posting that pic, I have to admit I was curious. That's a big cock, alright. I wonder how likely it is that it really belonged to Rasputin? Anyone know about the credibility of this? Horse, you heard anything? It seems odd that they would wait all this time and then dig him up to cut it off, but I don't know the whole story.

Actually, this topic was discussed at great length in a thread in the old board, although the thread doesn't seem to have survived the transition to the new board.

The object in the jar is one of many objects claimed over the years to have been Rasputin's penis. All of them have turned out to be frauds so far. In fact, most of them were not even of human origin. See, for example, http://www.themightyorgan.com/features_rasputin.html in which a sea cucumber was long believed to be Rasputin's penis.

An article with some clues to the legitimacy of the object is http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?click_id=29...05A141&set_id=1 . This explains that the Sex Museum is actually attached to an impotence clinic, and contains objects designed to stimulate, as part of therapy, not necessarily to be real. For example, the doctor who runs the exhibt claims that the legend is true-- by just looking at the jar with the penis, impotence can be cured. At that point, all credibility about the object just became lost. It's starting to sound like just another con in the circus sideshow.

I suspect that this object, too, will turn out to be a tourist-trap hoax.
