What I was aiming for was not so much a thread ruminating on the meaning of the word "hate," rather something more along the lines of "this is a person I've been brutal toward, ergo I am probably not their favorite person." At the very least a karmic exercise, at best an opportunity to find out you're overestimating your effect on someone. But better you further explicated, since ruminating on the word itself, and esp. as it applies to net-talk, is very useful. I think it is already a good thread. At this point, I'll add that even the two people I imagine may 'hate' me may not, and I certainly don't 'hate' them--but I do feel that on occasion there is no point in trying to continue to pretend you 'like' someone, because it can come across as false and more or less says 'kick me'. (and one of these I'm referring to here would DEFINITELY do that to me, given the slightest opportunity.)
