Sounds like he was intentionally leading you on or having a 'curious episode'. Knowing you are gay and asking where you are, telling you he missed you, cuddling and hugging are indicators of interest, whether you're a male or female, straight or gay.

I've had lots of girls and guys come on to me but the last thing I would do is lead them on if I wasn't interested. I think the guy that should be insulted is you.
