you're assuming that people who get good grades COMPREHEND what they're "learning". my sister often got straight A's growing up. when i was helping her with her homework, she often displayed an impeccable ability to explain things like her teacher would. when i would flip the script and ask her to apply what she's learned, or explain it more in depth, she turned into a rabbit in headlines. the educational system can, in the wrong hands, be nothing more than someone remembering what their teacher says and repeating it when the final test rolls around. everyone who hears and repeats something in a class room can't go out and apply what they've learned in the real world. this is one of the BIGGEST flaws in education, this is why young people can make it to high-school without reading past a 3rd grade level. school doesn't te
reading tools are a skill?? education is a tool?? what good does it do a black man who applies to a job but if application is tossed as soon as the interviewer sees that "african-america" is checked for race (it happens). what good does reading to a young black girl who's bombarded with the message that she's only important when she's shaking her booty?? what good does an education do to a black boy who, everyday has to worry if he's going to catch a stray bullet on the walk to work?? why bother worrying about education when the only recognition you'll get is when you're arrested or playing basketball?? one could give the generic "get a good job or scholarship and leave the ghetto" response, but that's much easier said from the comfort of a 2-story house in a safe neighborhood where the only worry is if a storm will knock the cable out.
here's my point. you could say black men are usually less "educated" than other counterparts, but you're ignoring the fact that black men often deal with more outside stressors than their counterparts. very easy to focus on social studies when you come home to mom and dad and a plate of brownies in a good neighborhood and you've never heard them argue about which bill can't be paid this month.
statistically, i could prove (and noone can argue) that jews seemed to have a hard time staying alive from the early 1930's to the mid 1940's, statistics show that LOTS of them were dying. were the jews stupid, would one walk off a bridge and the rest followed, were jewish men too incompetent to provide for their families causing mass starvation?? no, once you step BEHIND the numbers, you realize that they were being murdered by hitler's cronies.
like i've said and noone is arguing because its true, black men are less educated because in this country, odds are GREATLY stacked against them. there are so many obstacles that come into play from the minute their born.
if you put 10,000 paraplegics in the olympics, statistics would show that they often fail. why?? because the competition has all four limbs.
