I'm not going to comment on the rest of your post, for the simple reason, that I agree in part with a lot of what has been said, on both sides.

How about me? My ex had me LOCKED in the house for most of a year, I was beaten, raped and abused for his enjoyment and that of his friends. I didn't stay because I didn't want to be alone, or because I was ashmed, I stayed because I COULDN'T GET OUT.
Now sure, a lot of women, I've known plenty, stay for reasons best known to them, and not understood by most, but you make a very sweeping generalisation which angers those of us who know first hand that it isn't always true.
