Now where were we
Porn is changing, and some people don't like it, I think that was it.
I had a conversation recently in PM which was rather insightful, it would seem that while two people can appear to be on complete opposite sides of a discussion, they can in fact, feel very similar about the topic. This conversation led to some thinking...
We all know that porn has changed, what was once "softcore" is appearing in shows such as Eastenders and other shows shown during the day time, what was once "hardcore" is now "softcore" and for most of us, until quite recently, "mainstream" has been our home, with the new "hardcore" being just too much.
I think the main issue, isn't what we're seeing (we can always watch something else) and it isn't what they call it, what words they use and so on, as I've said before, we all have our opinions and we all know how we feel about things, we don't need everyone to think the same as us, as long as we can understand our reasons and appreciate someone elses, then all is good. The main issue is the future.
When I was growing up, I still remember as a very curious young girl, stealing page 3 from the papers and hiding it under my pillow, for quite some time back then, that was more than enough. As I got older, it wasn't, it was "oh yeah, another pair of tits" and nothing much more... We all go through this, its part of growing up. With things moving at the pace they are though, the sexual activity on normal tele getting more and more explicit, and more mainstream porn getting harder and harder, how far are things going to get before we realise we've gone too far?
I do agree that it is having an affect on people in their every day lives, for those who were disrespectful before, it will reinforce their behaviour. I don't believe it MAKES people disrespect others, but it does give them a very nice excuse if they want one. For those who do respect others, it will reinforce why. There are many good and bad points of a lot of it. Taking myself as an example, it made it a lot easier for me to speak up about some of the things I like (though I've not shared those here) but at the same time, I know its made others feel pressured into doing things they aren't into.
I don't believe porn changes a person, it may well make them more honest about who they really are though. |
