I haven't taken any classes in Krav Maga, but I have taken some lessons that I think use similar styles based on what I've seen.

It is brutal. It's intended to be so that any conflict is over as quickly as possible. It was also simple to learn.

Unlike the martial arts where form and discipline are the rule and a way of life self defense techniques are designed to get your ass out of danger fast. You don't want to impress your attacker with your skill, you want them out of commission.

It ain't pretty but it's a good idea.

I think you should take the classes. If nothing else you'll enjoy the physicality of it.
