The reason I responded to your post the way I did earlier when I assumed it was discrimination towards women is because I am in the South.....and there is and always has been a good ole boy's society down here.....although it may not be as strong as it has been in the past. Promoting men before women has always been the way it has always been down here. Men are seen as the bread winners for the family......and anything women make is gravy. Although in my adult lifetime I have seen more changes......more affirmative action and such. And companies trying to do the right thing.
I am curious about the department store you work for. It must have a mission statement to help and promote women. Where do you work? Lane Bryant? Mary Kay Cosmetics?
If I were you (a male) I don't think I would feel comfortable working in the environment that you describe. And you have the same choices if it was reversed like you described in the beginning. Complain......get the men to band together and file a harrassment suit. Nobody should have to endure being threatened with physical harm. (kicked in the balls etc) |
I grew up in pa and currently live in sc, so the comment about it being about the South dosn't really impact the situation. to be honest at the upper levels I have seen the discrimination the other way but I have less expereience there so I can't fully comment, the only thing is when I hear about District Managers they are almost always males. So it seems almost like General Manager of a store is a type of Glass Cieling for the ladies in retail. Now, I havn't been around the upper levels like I said so it is possible that there are dozens of Female DM's I just don't knwo about as I have only had four
but at the lower levels I am seeing a clear bias in favor of women
I don't need more then myself to file a harrassment suit
the company will just lose more money if I do it that way
