Heretic's Tourniquet, v4.0

Hey folks,

Quick little reminder to those of you who might pop in and check on my online diary every once in a while: [link=http://dee-heretic.diaryland.com]A new version is available.[/link] Writing style remains the same; it's just a new layout. And what's that background image, you ask? Actually, that's a photo my roommate took of me while I had my hair done in cornrows.

Feedback always appreciated per usual. Oh yeah, and I'm glad this place finally decided to WORK -- geez? It's been, what, a day and a half, since I was able to log on last?

Lose the mosaic effect. In fact, animations for changing pages are tacky no matter which animation it is. Also, the text/background combination is illegible at certain points. Can you guess I preferred your blog's old layout?

sammygirly: I agree Dee - while the cornrow pic is hot and artistic and stuff ;) - reading your white text over the grey background is frustrating to say the least...and when I visit your blog - I'm there to read.....

....oh and, I've been having the BEST karma.... :-* LOL

7x6andchg: Dee-

Had no problem reading the words when they were over your hair - off to the side in the grey, it becomes a little tougher.

BTW, LOL @ the Matrix Reloaded review - "the gall" - as if the entire friggin WORLD didn't know that another installment was coming in 6 months.

Ok, I've got a question for some of you web-savvy HTMLers out there.

Take a look at [link=http://ladyofthefae.diaryland.com]this web diary[/link]. Do you notice how there's a section centered with the maroonish background translucently overlaid the greyscale background. I could use a similar effect, myself; I think that would help you guys read the content better.

Anybody know how to do that?

Ok. I've fucked around with enough code; it should be easier for you guys to read the white font now, even though the images aren't "perfectly" lined up. Pretty close anyway.

awellhungboi: Dee, You have a really cool site. It's much more readable now. I haven't even seen the first Matrix movie, so I wouldn't be able to comment on your very review, but I did have some other questions.

Do you like diaryland? I've been using Blogger, but I'm really thinking about switching. Maybe to Livejournal, but diaryland's possible.

Do you link (or mention) LPSG on your site? During LPSG's down time I started writing a post about how the site was down and how it was really throwing my routine off--and then in the course of another post I was going to start writing something else, which only periphally mentioned the whole 'big penis' thing, but still I felt a little weird about it. I mean, in my actual physical journal I'll write about anything and everything, no problem, but I don't know, it seemed weird, even though it's part of who I am. I get enough hits from weird-ass search strings as it is, (once got a hit from somebody looking for 'ovipositor porn'. WTF? :o) I don't know if I want to be known as 'that guy who blogs about his big dick all the time.' What are your thoughts, experiences?

Three, have you really had 45,000+ hits? Wow. I've been blogging for a while and just got to 400. (And most of those are me). But, I don't really 'advertise' it, keeping it more or less as a private thing.

Anyway, you've got an awesome site, with some really good writing!

Peter

sammygirly: He did just recently actually mention LPSG - in the "Favorites" entry as one of his two fav forums....

I have been with Diaryland for a couple of years now, and I have stuck faithfully to it so I suppose it's not all that bad. *Here's the thing, though. *Diaryland is an excellent journalling site whether you're into HTML coding or not. *If HTML's too complicated or you don't want to mess with it, Diaryland has a variety of stock templates to choose from. *So, really, it's just a matter of logging in, saying your peace, then leaving. *But if you want to make it a more creative body of work, there are several Diaryland-sponsored design services that can help you out; read more at the [link=http://beautify.diaryland.com]Diaryland Beautification Project[/link].

Something else I like is the sense of community. *I don't care much for the chat service it provides or the diary rings, but it's almost scary the way in which people will find your work. *Granted, for some strange reason, a lot of Google hits are pedophilic in nature for me (woo! *go child porn!), I will find people with similar interests who like to chat and exchange ideas. *All the happier that makes me, you know. *I don't know how long you have worked with your blog, but once you start expanding it a bit (tacking on a Signmyguestbook.com guestbook or a guestmap or taking some goofy online quizzes or whatever -- not to mention posting a link to your blog i.e. in your LPSG profile), you will encounter and have fun with other users. *I have this knack for attracting British-based and Australian-based girls and I love their writing styles too!

As Sammy said, yeah, I have listed LPSG among my links.

To be honest, I don't recall writing any entries that explicitly mention this large penis support group. *I might have talked about something I read on here, but I kept it brief. *And really, the good lot of my stories dealing with my wild and crazy senior year in college, though sexual and a bit graphic in nature, I don't really go out of my way to quote my dick's dimensions. *I don't really boast or proclaim anything special there. *I'm not ashamed to talk so frankly (hell, I'm here, aren't I?), but on the other hand, this place is more appropriate for it than my blog.

[quote author=awellhungboi link=board=99;num=1052977763;start=0#6 date=05/16/03 at 1616]Three, have you really had 45,000+ hits?[/quote]

They're mostly mine, though I have tweaked the stats counter so that it's a little more accurate in keeping count. *It counts a hit for every entry that's loaded onto the browser window and I have blocked my own IP address from registering on the counter. *Then again, I have had this stats system for about a year and a half... so yeah.

Anywho, thanks for writing, Peter. *What's the URL for your blog?

awellhungboi: My coding skills are um, passable at best. *Mainly the cut n paste variety. * I tried to stay away from, you know, little stars or kissy-lips that follow the cursor around, or scrolling javascript marquees, stuff like that, but I've had my lapses . . .

Most of the diaryland sites I've seen look pretty good. *I've seen some decent blogger sites, but for the most part, blogger just seems limited. *I really want to go to deadjournal, but can't afford it--so diaryland might be good. *I like that sense of community that you mention--blogger doesn't have that--although in some ways, I like just having my little anonymous corner of the web.

After Sammygirly mentioned it I went back and looked at your 'favorites' post. *That was cool--just 'here it is--I like this site' *Still, I think you're right that things of that nature are best left here (that's what LPSGs for, after all)--unless it's just incredibly germane to something I want to write about. *

Thanks for answering my questions!

My blog is:

link removed

Although after looking at Heretic's Tourniquet, I think my burblings about girls I have crushes on and quotes of lyrics from goth music might seem a little sophmoric. *So just bear in mind it's just random bits and pieces culled from my random life.

7x6andchg: Ah, but, wellhungboi - that is what a diary is at its heart - a selected harvest of the experiences from everyday life...

I'm sure mine would appear "sophormoric" and probably mundane to most people...but I think anyone who knows me, even tangentially, would enjoy an insight into my mind....

I should probably start one - now that I have time, being unemployed.

Thanks, Paul. I guess you're right. It's just, y'know, the thought of people seeing stuff you just kind of ramble about at three in the morning, can be kind of daunting.

Still I would recommend anyone starting a blog/web journal/ etc. It's fun.

Sorry to hear you're still looking for a job. Hope something turns up soon. :)

7x6andchg: True, true...as far as ramblings and such...but it does offer an insight, I think, into a person, that a casual conversation or acquaintanceship does not.

Maybe I will start one. I can guarantee it won't be as sophisticated HTML-wise as Dee's, but...not a bad thing to do...

Paul:

I encourage you to consider taking up with a blog. I never seem to tire of reading interesting and diverse blogs. I've been doing mine for a number of years now and I've made a great number of online acquantenances and "friendships" to boot.

Good luck!

As long as it's legible, we don't care. At least you're not one of those people with a fetish for writing real small so that we can't read it

[move]or causing seizures with marquees like this[/move]

I saw one today that was teal on blue.
