Actually it was the both of them. Matthew, born in December of '66, portrayed Albert Ingalls the adopted son of Charles Ingalls (Michael Landon character). His brother Patrick (born in July of '65), portrayed Andy Garvey, the on screen son of Merlin Olsen (more on Merlin shortly). Patrick (using the name Labyorteaux) went on to co-star in the television series JAG as Bud Roberts.
Patrick, arguably the better looking and furrier, has continued an onscreen career, brother Matthew has done mostly voice work in recent years.
Back to Merlin Olsen, in earlier years, there were occasional glimpses of the hair sniffing its way out of the top of his shirts. Sadly very few of those and he kept buttoned up tight-even went on to portray Father Murphy in the series of that name. He is a Mormon so this may be part of why he doesn't show skin. Damned sexy though!
And now to other fur-The late (very late) David Janssen, then there's Paul Sorvino (there's a sauna scene of him out there somewhere), and Ed Asner-although he's turned scary looking in recent years.
A close one, with a workability is Peter Sarsgaard (at least in some of his films he has the hair).
