| | | Why are Evangelical Christians soooo interested in what you do in bed? For the life of me I just can't figure it out.
What makes "forbidden" sex so fascinating to them? Why should they care?

Lust (Latin, luxuria)
Lust (or lechery) is usually thought of as involving obsessive or excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. Unfulfilled lusts sometimes lead to sexual or sociological compulsions and/or transgressions including (but obviously not limited to) sexual addiction, adultery, bestiality, rape, and incest. Dante's criterion was "excessive love of others," which therefore rendered love and devotion to God as secondary. In "Purgatorio", the penitent walks within flames to purge himself of lustful/sexual thoughts and feelings.

| | Banned | short answer?
Fundamental Christians (perhaps all Christians to one degree or another) are taught that sex is something intrinsically bad unless had for procreative purposes.
Most have been indoctrinated to that belief to such a degree that plain ol' hetero copulation is seen as disgusting or wanton. Add enjoyment and homosexuality to that notion and it's a recipe for condemnation.
Poor fuckers don't know the error of their instruction.....

| | | i gather it's because they believe God cares. which is a reasonable opinion, i suppose, none of us are exactly sure what God's into. personally i think He would find sex rather distasteful and possibly a bit limited, but i don't think He would care enough to make any specific prohibitions - imagine YOU had inspired all of creation, and indeed had a complex and boundless universe to maintain on a day-to-day basis, i think you would probably put 'checking up on earthlings' intimate practices' quite far down the agenda
unless of course God experiences time differently to ourselves, such that He can cram an infinite amount of oversight-procedure into His schedule, but even then i think He would probably refrain from looking into our sex-lives in the interests of bureaucratic efficiency.
on the other hand, possibly God is, like some of us mortals, quite horny, perhaps He likes to have a celestial rummage over copulating carbon-based organisms. or maybe He's morelike a psychosociologist, setting up little experiments to see where what we like to do with our sexual organs if left unadvised. perhaps if someone has some scripture references for the major bits about sexuality they could furnish me, i'm interested but too lazy to read the whole Bible!

| | | As an evangelical Christian, I would like to take this opportunity to say that I dont care what you do in your bedroom. I think different denominations have different mind sets on things. Sex is not only created for procreation but for the mutual enjoyment of the two partners. This is said in the Bible. So anything else that someone tells you, that is their interpretation. I do believe that what I read in the bible is true but that does not stop me from loving other people and having concern and care for their well being. Remember christians can be just like anyone else with their own personal foibles and idiosyncrisies. Though some go to church for a show I would hope that they are also going there in the attempt to become a better person as well. Please do not paint all Christians with a wide sweeping jaundiced eye. It is just as bad as experiencing the shoe on the other foot. | | | |

Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love."
1 Corinthians 6:15-16 "Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of a harlot? God forbid. What! | | | I don't know why you would need to say Evangelical, the moral and religious right seem to think they should be the deciding factor on many issues like animal rights, meat eaters, sexual orientation, abortion rights, what gets taught in schools, separation of church and state, and birth control. I think people should stick to raising there own children properly instead of worry what everyone else is doing.

Those are two of my favorite passages. The first is talking to men who want to trade in the wife for a newer model. Even then men probably had midlife crises and wandering eyes. The Hind and Roe refer to animals in the deer and antelope families. They were considered graceful and beautiful. It was merely saying to let yourself be satisfied with your partner instead of going out there shopping once you have made that choice.
This second passage was written to Christians. It was saying that everytime you sleep with someone new you are sleeping with everyone that person ever slept with( thus relating it to a harlot or prostitute) It is saying that every time you have sex with someone you are joining yourself to that person. For Christians who believe that Christ dwells in them it is saying that if one does go out and fool around they are carrying Christ to the party with them. Food for thought.

Careful naughty or they'll pull your Evangelical card!
Sorry but that broad brush is appropriate given the how nine tenths of your fellow Evangelicals feel about sex before marriage (except of course the Palins ) and about homosexuality.

They are not immune their hormones - many probably have the most wild, dirty, nastiest sex of anybody simply because it's the only outlet for their rather regimented religious life. Ted Haggard and all these Evangelical hypocritical pastors caught with prostitutes come to mind. But frankly I could care less.
Just a hunch. | | | |

Jaunet,
I happen to live by my beliefs about sex before marriage. Though we may joke about it here I think that many people may believe or even know that the bible says certain things but not practice it. The bible says gossip and pride are wrong as well but there are MANY who practice it as well. I happen to try to live by what the bible says for myself but I can not control the actions of others and it doesnt stop me from caring about them because of it.
