Ok, back to thread: I have never in my life had a rite of passage, so I couldn't tell. They say they're organising something in a dark alley for having my 1000 posts.... I hope it's a party!

Maybe I'm just proving the point that I can be equally argumentative when I'm not on.

I do have a question though... None of those things are uniquely male, why limit it?

Well, let's say that it is rare to celebrate first wanks or first shags in young girls. I do agree, however, that it can apply to both genders all the same.

- First day at 'big school'

- First shag

- Passing driving test

You don't know many young girls, do you?

Sexual things are equally important to young women / girls - we've just been discouraged from talking about it. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen and it doesn't mean that close friends don't confide in each other and celebrate milestones like those.

how about moving out of your parents' house to live on your own?

I know many young girls, I just don't happen to be one.

I'm not saying it's not important or that it should be less important for girls. Nor did I said it doesn't happen. It would be stupid to suggest so.

I just say it's quieter, so to speak, in comparision to male rites of passage that are more widely cheered and expected to.

You don't have moving out of your parent's house, getting a job, graduating high school or college, owning your own car, having a child, joining the military, being in combat, killing someone, getting your first STD, getting your first tattoo/body piercing, getting drunk, or doing drugs.

Only one there, "first shag". The rites I was expecting age to vote and age to drink alcohol.
